See my sewing course results :)

In most of my posts I write about going every saturday to my sewing course.

But I only showed in the beginning what I have sewn. The apron and the loop I made at home.

Today I will show you WHAT I made in my course.

My first sewing course day has been september 28th. Now we are end of march and I finished this saturday the 3rd piece for myself. All other things I made so far has been for friends and family. Can you believe it?

Unfortunality I didnt made photos from all the things I’ve done. I asked my god child to get photos of the middle age cape I made for her. She needed this cape for her final examination. We didnt wanted to buy a ready-made cape because they didnt looked so good. So I bought dark green woolen, and sew it in my course.

Here are 2 photos:

Cape 1 Cape 2

The cape isnt to long. It was made for her model which is 1 or 2 inches larger then Sonja. Unfortunality you cant see the beautyful dark green here. It seems dark grey. I even bought a brooch to make it more middle age authentic.

Here are 2 jackets I made for myself 🙂

They are not perfekt, but I started both in october. Today I’m better with the seams hehe

The red jacket has been planned for the Advent season lol. The flannel inside is with Rudolph.

The grey jacket is with my much-loved dots and my fav color. I’m sure this jacket will get one of my favorite 🙂

Spring photos — again

I switched my camera with my god child this week. Mine is a full frame camera, but her camera has a 1.6 crop factor. This means my 100mm macro objective has now 160mm with her camera. I really really love this objective 🙂

I went away from work early yesterday to make photos. A lot of days I’m coming home after 10 or more hours. This means winter isnt my season to make a lot of photos because of the darkness.

Yesterday has been such a lovely day: warm, sunny ….

I had to leave work hehehe

More and more spring flowers has been out there. Also many bugs and other insects. This is why I love to work with a crop factor  🙂

Spring is coming – Photos

Yes, its been a long time since my last post.

Dunno why, but I didnt had energy for working at home. But since one week its like I woke up. Maybe I ‘m related to polar bears and had to sleep all winter like they do LOL

Whatever. One week ago I startet to work on pimping my home again.

Yes, I’m still going every saturday to my sewing course. But guess what! I made 2 things – in words TWO – only for myself. All other stuff I sew so far has been for friends or my god child. And now I’m planning a gift for my god child again hehe

Last weekend has been the first time this year with temperatures about 50 degrees. I had to go out with my camera and look for spring pictures

YES spring is here 🙂

My first apron

I bought  patterns from Burda Style 2 weeks ago. I wanted to make special curtains I have seen on the picture from this pattern. Besides my curtain there has been a pattern for an apron.

No, I dont wear aprons and I dont own one.But my best friend does 🙂

We will meet today. I have to give her the christmas gift (a bought one) . Why dont give a special self made gift too?

I startet yesterday evening and worked till 4 am. Yes, I’m not the fastest sewer so far, but hey, I’m still a beginner. I checked my fabrics, and chose 2 different cottons, same pattern but different colors.

Here is my apron:

I’m damn proud of it. I love the colors and the compass logo makes it more special hihi

Little icicles on my window (photos)

OK, winter and it’s cold temperature isnt really my favorite season hehehe

But a few things I like about winter 🙂 Christmas, the feeling when coming from the cold outside into your warm home, snow, hot tea with lemon or hot chocolate

When I woke up we had freezing 25 °F and I found icicles on my window. Only small ones about 1 inch, but I couldnt resist to make photos with my macro.

When checking this photos on my computer some icicles looks like they have a plant on it. Amazing. Havent seen this before. Maybe wind did this art with water drops. I dont know

Take a look for yourself (the black on the top of the photos is the shadow of my window)

The first snow (photos)

Today we had the first snow this winter 🙂

I had to go out with my camera and make a few photos.

I like it when the last flowers are with snow. I found a few of them.

Take a look at my photos 🙂

When I will feel my fingers again – feels like they are frozen – I will make a loop today 🙂

How to make a travel pillow

This one I have done long time ago but I couldnt post it because it has been a gift for my godchild Sonja.

She loves to travel a lot with bus, car, train. She never travels without her own pillow.

When traveling she runs with her suitcase in one hand, her bag in her other hand and her pillow under her arm. When I saw this for the first time I thought about how to make it easier for her.

We bought a new pillow for her. Did she choose a small one? NOPE, it has to be a big one LOL

 Case 1

And this is how I made it for her:

Material:

1 Pillow

2 different fabrics ( pillow 1 yard flannel, bag 1 yard cord fabric)

1 Zipper

3 x Clip buckles

2 different ribbons (pillow 40 inches, bag 2x 40 inches)

1 cord 40 inches

2 cord stops

I have chosen a nice flannel with cameras for the pillow.Sonja is an amazing photographer and what better motive I could have bought for her?

First cut the fabric for the pillow, sew the zipper on one of the larger side. (dont buy a zipper about the whole lenghts of the pillow because of the ribbons with the clip buckles.

Then cut the 40 inch ribbon in half.and put the clip buckle on one of it.

Case 7

Lay this ribbon in half like on the picture above and pin it with a needle 4-5 inches from the end of this side. When sewing this side, sew 3-4 time forward and back over the ribbon.

Close both shorter sides of the pillow. ( Open your zipper after this a little. Had a real fight to turn my pillow because I couldnt opened the zipper LOL )

On the last side put the second ribbon (dont fold it this time !!! ) in the the same distance as you did with the first ribbon and close this side.

Case 8

On the picture above you see the pillow with the ribbons, one folded, the other not. Put the other part of your clip buckle on it. Fold the end of this ribbon 3 or 4 times and sew it together. Otherwise your clip buckle will slip and will get lost.

Case 2

your pillow will look like this, when you attach it to a car seat or a bus seat 🙂

It isnt very hygienic to run with your pillow outdoors:Plus Sonja chose a very large pillow. Not so perfect when you will take it on your journey.

Birgid, the dressmaker of my sewing course made the proposal to sew a bag for this pillow. Not for the whole lenghts of the pillow but half of it. So I made the bag big enough to fold the pillow.

AND SHE WAS RIGHT!!!

Here comes the bag for your pillow:

Case9

Cut the fabric:  2/3 the length of your pillow and add on each side of the bag 4 inch more then the width of your pillow.

Bag 1

Bag 2

Bag 3

Bag 4

Put the cord stops on your cord.

Fold your pillow and take it into your bag 🙂

Case 5

If I would do it again I would take a much larger ribbon below. This bag cant be attach directly to your suitcase because the ribbon is to short.

I also would chose a stronger ribbon for the bag and bigger clip buckles.

This is how it looks like.

But it will work this way too 🙂

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

XMAS

I didnt blog for some times because I have been sick for weeks.

No energy to work on my shelf, even missed some sewing lessons.

Now I have a few days off. I will using this time to go on with my shelf 🙂

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone 🙂 🙂 🙂

Elly

Start to pimp my sewing shelf Part 2 – The first 2 doors

Yes, even if my sewing course startet, I’m still working on my shelf 🙂

I wish I could practice what I learned the last 2 saturdays with my sewing course, but my shelf wont do the pimp by itself LOL

Here is a picture of one of the doors. I will make 8 doors in 4 different styles. This is the first of them. I have to grind and paint these 2 doors, but the most wood work is done

door 1

As good as I can, I try to explain what I used and what I did.

But as a beginner with wood working I’m not sure if the way I did this is circuitous or not. Maybe there is an easier, faster way to do this work, but I dont know it.

Before I finished this door I tried laths with different widths and different thicknesses.

This is what I used at the end

Door 5

Door 6

lath 1

From lath 1 saw the 4 parts and glue them as seen on the picture above.

Door 7

 lath 2:

saw the miter at the longer sides first. Put them on the frame from lath 1 and measure if you really have 14.17inch on the open sides. If not, change the length of them and then saw the miter. Check again if it fits now!

I made the mistake to saw all 4 sides first and then tried them on my frame. If it had been to long I could have cut them, but no, they were to short 😦

If the sizes of all 4 laths fits, glue them on your frame. As on the picture above.

Door 3

I dont know what names these laths have or what they are for, but they were exactly what I needed.

I choosed the right one on both ends of my frame. The other one for filling the frame.

Door 8

dont saw them all at once !!!! Yes, made this mistake too hehehehe

My lath 2 frame has narrow differences in width over the 28inch. We talk about 0.004inch / 0,1mm. It isnt much, but I wanted it perfect.

So I measured for every piece what lenghts its needed. I needed some in 11.81inch / 30cm and some in 11.7inch / 29,9cm

Make a mark on your frame and on your parts !!! This is when you also have differences. It will spare you time when you start to glue.

Door 9

For the middle of this door I saw a 11.81inch / 30cm piece of lath 2

I had luck that all parts filled the complete frame. Otherwise I would have change the middle lath. I tried with so many different laths, that I’m sure I could have taken one of them if it hadnt fit.

I cant believe after so many trying with this damn door I did both of them on ONE weekend LOL

And I Love My Work !!!

Photos of a beautiful fall

After a very long time we decided to search geocaches again and looking for lost places. It has been months since the last cache.

Whats there to say? We choosed the worst weather to look for caches: rain, lightnings, thunder. We only found one cache, but  also a nice lost place. We couldnt explore the place because of the rain. The terrain has been to slippery.

So we went to a park and made a few photos
