Happy Easter 2023

Where has the time gone? Just a moment ago it was Christmas and New Year!
Actually, I wanted to go out for photos and make beautiful photos for Easter, but somehow I’m still not 100% fit after Corona. Therefore, I took photos with my phone the day before yesterday after my shopping.

My news at the moment is that my fabric store is no more. I am extremely sad about that. Good news is that our sewing group including the seamstress have found a new way to sew together on Saturdays. Unfortunately the course costs twice as much as before. 😦
Let’s see how we will like it in the new store. Next week Saturday the new course should start. Of course I have again lots of ideas what I could sew and where I do not know how I could do it myself.

Happy Easter ❤ ❤ ❤

I so love my self made tartan jacket

Today I show again a part that has taken a little longer.
I had worked last year and the year before last on the raincoat.

At some point I just could not see this yellow fabric anymore. So I just put the coat aside and started with a new jacket that I wanted to make for a long time.

I have an older jacket that I totally love the pattern of. The jacket is light and for summer when it is sometimes cloudy or windy.

This is the jacket I wanted to copy

Jacket-2023-2

Jacket-2023-1

Because the pattern is very similar from a zip-up hoodie, I used such a pattern.
The only difference was that I had to make the cut much larger as indicated. Sweatshirt fabric is stretchy, but my tartan fabric is not.
I just used my jacket as a pattern for the size. Because I knew it would fit me well.

I left out the pocket on the sleeve. On my original jacket, I never used it.

For the back I added such a piece, as you have it, for example, also on the trench coat. No idea what it’s called.
Unfortunately, in the picture it looks like the plaid pattern of it doesn’t fit exactly. But that seems to be because the jacket is hanging on the hanger. When I have the jacket on, the piece and back pattern fit perfectly.

Jacket-2023-5

Tartan fabric quickly looks too much if you don’t work with contrasts. I chose white because you can see the contrast really well and it spices up the jacket.

Jacket-2023-6

The pockets for the new jacket are similar to those from the old one. Here too, as with everything else, I have chosen white zippers as a contrast

Jacket-2023-7

With tartan I associate Scotland, history, past, kings, queens.
That’s why I wanted to have an “old-fashioned” embroidery on the jacket. I thought long and hard about what to embroider on the jacket. Then I found this embroidery with the crown on Etsy.
Now I just needed matching fonts for my name.
This font is called Old English. While embroidering these letters, I sat at my machine and had to recite the alphabet because I just didn’t recognize some of the letters. 😀

Jacket-2023-8

And to give the back of the jacket some contrast, I embroidered two ribbons with the same font.

What else happened this year?
My fabric store, where I went every Saturday for sewing classes, is closing for good next week Saturday. That is such a shame. You knew all the salespeople, they were incredibly helpful. I’m going to miss them. 😦
Our Saturday group has been offered an alternative starting in April, but we’ll see if the class can be held there on Saturdays. Unfortunately, I have to work during the week and can not go to a class.

After 3 years, it also hit me at the end of February with Corona. And that, although I have 3 vaccinations! It was pretty intense. I am not fit yet. The whole day only exhausted and tired and could only sleep. Hope that passes soon.

My longest sewing project – A yellow raincoat

Yes, this raincoat was extremely elaborate. I had sewn a coat years ago that also took a long time, but not as long as the raincoat.

Look here at my first coat

https://justelly.com/2017/06/10/my-own-sewing-masterpiece-a-jacket/

I started with the raincoat 2021!!!.

Unfortunately, there was already Corona. My fabric store that offers the sewing classes had to close, open, close, open again.

On top of that, the seamstress who does the sewing classes is already retired, so she was part of the Corona risk group. Therefore, even if the store was open, she did not do the courses for her own safety.

Everyone knows what the situation was.

That’s why it took almost 15 months to get the coat done!

And here’s my new masterpiece 🙂

If anyone asks if this pattern is available for purchase. It is not 😀

I think I almost drove Moni crazy with my special requests 😀
The original pattern had an elastic band in the waist. Then I came from class one Saturday and saw a woman who had these bands, I don’t know what they’re called, on the back of her coat. I wanted THAT too!

So both sides were opened again so that you can sew these bands in. I find them great and you can also beautifully emphasize the waist if you want that. Plus, through the snaps you have a nice contrast to the yellow fabric.

My hood was also already sewn when I didn’t like it anymore. So it had to be changed. But then it was too big. For this I sewed in a ribbon to change the size. I copied this from my parka. And again a little more contrast on the back thereby

The same for the sleeves. When I had the bands on the back, I wanted the same on the sleeves. When it’s very windy, I can make the sleeves nice and tight with it, so that no wind comes in.

As you can also see, I have again sewn with stripes. I would not be me if it was completely without stripes or dots or plaid 😀

I love the finish at the bottom of the coat. With the dark blue band looks really great ❤

Before I even started the coat, I knew I wanted this fabric printed. I had the logo on the front made on Etsy, and the image on the sleeve I bought on a graphic site.

Then I took a piece of my fabric plus the two graphics and went with it to a store that prints or embroiders clothing. They should first test if they can do that on this special fabric,

Btw, the year 2014 refers to the fact that I had attended a sewing class for the first time in my life ❤ ❤ ❤

As you can see here, it worked. And very well.

How do you like my latest sewing project?

Small tip if someone also wants to sew a raincoat.
I have taken laminated cotton as a fabric. When you make the visible seams on this yellow fabric, always select only the slowest sewing speed!!! Only then will the stitches be somewhat even. The reason is that the fabric is not slippery, but still not evenly transported if you sew too fast.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2022

Yes, I know, I have not been in touch for ages.
Has anything changed for me this year? Not much, except that one colleague has quit and the rest who still work in the lab are under extreme stress. Especially because everyone who had Corona also had to stay at home for 7 days, regardless of whether they had symptoms or not.
So it comes that I have less energy after work to play or to do my hobby sewing.
Since a few weeks we finally have a new employee. Sure, he has to be trained first, but after that it should get easier. Especially since we no longer have to stay at home when we have Corona without symptoms. A mask that has to be worn then should protect the other colleagues.
Did I sew again?  Yes, some things. I’ll have to take pictures of them so I can show them here.

But above all a wonderful Christmas to all and Happy New Year

DIY Bottle holder for a belt bag

2 years ago or so I bought a fanny pack with a bottle holder. “Unfortunately” there were only in earth tone green, brown, beige. Not necessarily the colors I like.

All this time I had planned to sew the bag myself. This weekend was the sewing of the bottle holder. I had to first buy a few things such as thermofoil, rainproof fabric, etc.

Here is the original bag as I found it on Amazon.

Every time I walked around with the bag in the summer, I was annoyed that my drink got warm so quickly.
That’s why I searched the internet for a fabric or foil that would either keep it cold longer or warm in the winter.
I found bubble wrap, which is coated on both sides with aluminum foil and is also used for freezer bags. So that it works even better, I have taken this foil double. I even used it on the striped part.

The bottle holder is slightly larger than the original, because I wanted the bottle is completely in the holder.

The original bottle holder can be attached to the belt so that it does not “wander” while running. I did the same with mine. I even had to buy extra wide Velcro for it.

And here is the finished bottle holder. The bag for this is very elaborate and will take accordingly longer until I have sewn it.

Happy Easter 2021

Has it really been a year since the world stood still?
That people had to stay at home on Easter? That life was no longer as we knew it?

I see pictures from Israel or the United States or even England, where people can come together again, where life is getting back to normal and I am happy.

I can’t wait to get an OK for the vaccination. After an allergy shock during a flu shot, I first have to be tested to see if I can tolerate the vaccine and get it. Unfortunately, this takes time.

My Easter greetings come today from home. I actually wanted to go out to the meadow and take pictures like last year. But unfortunately, the warm days, where the daisies are everywhere to see, came only a few days ago. No daisies to see. Yesterday I passed my park and saw some sporadically. But by then I had already taken the photos.

If you like the photos, you are welcome to use them as Easter greetings ❤ ❤ ❤  (Of course only for non-commercial use)

Stay healthy

Merry Christmas 2020

Merry XMas 2020-07

And the angel said, Have no fear; for truly, I give you good news of great joy which will be for all the people:

For on this day, in the town of David, a Saviour has come to birth, who is Christ the Lord.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

Here are a few Christmas photos from me. Like every year I have increased my porcelain collection 😀

This is the first Christmas where I do not visit anyone, or do not get a visit. I was sick for 2 weeks, luckily the test was negative, but I don’t want to risk anything because I am not 100% fit yet.

But luckily there is the internet. There you can see your people just like that 🙂 Instead, we open the gifts during a video conference. That’s bound to be fun.

Stay healthy and save ❤ ❤ ❤

Advent, the 4th candle is lit

Is today really already the 4th Advent and in a few days Christmas?
I had so much planned, all the things I wanted to do. But then unfortunately a nasty cold came in between. Fortunately, the C-test is negative.
Last year a cold was just that. A cold. This year I’ve already had 4 tests and each time the wait with : do I have it or not?

Actually, I wanted to make a new picture with my Advent wreath and candles every Sunday. As I said, the stupid cold came in between. But today at least the wreath with 4 glowing candles 🙂

Merry XMas 2020-05

Last year I had Hanna knit me beautiful sweaters, because when I knit myself, it just doesn’t look nice and even. She even embroidered maritime motifs on my last sweater.

https://justelly.com/2019/10/25/my-wish-sweater/

That gave me the idea to have something made for the Christmas season. An embroidered Advent calendar.
Even if I can not embroider myself, I love the designs of V. Enginger. They are so cute and retro. I even have some of her books.
Hanna and I picked some designs for my Advent calendar from the books.

I waited almost a year for it. First, because there are quite a few parts and second, because Christmas was soooo far away. 😀

What do you say? Aren’t they just adorable?

Originally I wanted to make little bags out of all the embroidery. But when I picked up all the pieces, I noticed that some motifs are very large.

When I sew a little bag from it, you can no longer see the motif completely.

I’ll have to figure out the best way to do that. Maybe sew little bags and then sew the motif on the fabric.

Could look interesting, depending on what color the fabric has. Maybe red or green or even tartan I can imagine.

Stay healthy and safe ❤ ❤ ❤
