An embroidered maritime hoodie. Huge mistakes with sewing chalk ..

And once again I have chosen a pattern that I really like.

Let it Snow sweatshirt in summer hahaha

I had a lot of problems with this hoodie. I’m still not quite sure whether I like the end result as it is now.

You can see exactly what my problem is with the hood! Two different shades of white.

When I made the holes for the cord on the hood, I hadn’t paid attention and also made the hole through the embroidered middle section. Stupid me!

I ordered 4!!!!! different white fabrics, but all of them were not the same white color as my original.
So I made the new middle section with it.

But then things got really bad. I made markings on all the pieces with blue sewing chalk so that I knew where the embroidery had to be. Then I ironed embroidery stabilizer onto the back and embroidered all the pieces.

When ALL the embroidery was done, I wanted to wash out the blue chalk in the washing machine. But it didn’t work! Not even after two washes.
Google then told me that this chalk should NEVER be ironed. Unfortunately, I had never noticed this before because I had never marked the right side of the fabric with it. At most for cutting, but it disappears when you sew.

So I had to cut out almost all the pieces again and re-embroider them. But this time I marked them with a pencil.

The only parts I kept are the back and the lower front.
You can still see the blue sewing chalk next to the top red line on the pocket!

If I decide to make the hoodie again, I will definitely do the lettering on the arm from top to bottom and no longer all the way around. It says ” Ocean is calling”. But you can’t really see it when you’re wearing the hoodie.

I still like this hoodie. But every time I look at it, I see the two different shades of white!

Here is the complete hoodie from the front and back. Oh yes, I still have to wash out the marks from the pencil that you can still see.

My wish sweater

Do you like knitted warm sweaters? Yes? Me too.

But my problem is that when I knit it myself it doesn’t look nice. I already tried to improve it by using different needles for right and left rows. Nevertheless, I didn’t like the result very much.

For a long time I was looking for someone to knit me sweaters according to my patterns. On the internet I found people who knit sweaters as an order. But I was looking for someone nearby to discuss wool, patterns and so on.

And then I was in a shop that sold homemade things for someone. There were sewn bags and pillows AND knitted stockings.
Of course, I immediately asked if she accepted orders. That’s how I met Hanna. She lives in my city which was important for me.

Today I want to show you the fourth sweater – my favourite so far.

Anyone who has read other postings from me knows that I love applications and nautical motifs.
OK, I didn’t want applications on my sweater. So I thought, why not embroider the sweater?

Actually it should say “LA MER” on the sweater, but Hanne said it would be much too big.

That’s why I chose the embroidery pictures WITHOUT the letters.

Since this week Hanna is embroidering an advent calendar for me. So for each day a Christmas motif. Then I want to sew bags out of it. Unfortunately she won’t be able to finish it this year. Too much to embroider and I still have to sew afterwards.

My 5th year sewing anniversary and a new machine

Soon I will have my 5th anniversary.
5 years ago I found my new hobby: Sewing.
And I still love it. ❤ ❤ ❤

That’s not something I take for granted. I had often found a new hobby before, spent a lot of money on it and then after a few months or even a year no longer feel like it.

Now the time had come to invest a little more money in my hobby.

I had bought my first sewing machine BEFORE my first course day. I didn’t know what to look for as a beginner. I don’t even remember why I bought this model. I didn’t know any better.

But don’t get me wrong. This machine has accompanied me 5 years wonderfully from my beginnings until today!

Over the years, however, I have missed more and more functions on my machine, such as the machines in my course.

That’s why I’ve been looking for my favourite sewing machines for the last few months. Used because new machines are too expensive for me.

Friday was the day. I found one of the machines I liked and the price was OK for me.

Yesterday I had my new baby.

I haven’t sewed anything with it yet. Just trying to get familiar with it, because the new machine is very different from my old one. Just sewed a few seams and tried the stitches.
But I love it already.

And as a goodbye to my old machine, today I post the last piece I sewed with it.
It becomes part of a dress that I want to sew in class and also finished with my new machine.
Up to now I had always sewed things with applications for others. But this project will be for me 🙂

I love everything that has to do with the sea. That’s why I have a compass in almost all my badges.
Cutting out every single part cost me a lot of time even if the compass has 10 inches including the letters.

I could have simply ironed the compass after cutting, but I was afraid that it would come off at some point. That’s why I always sew ALL applications to the contours after ironing.

The funny thing now is that my new machine has an embroidery module and I could have stitched the compass with it hehe

DIY My first polo shirt

I love polo shirts. I guess I have at least 40-50. Long sleeve, short sleeve, in all colors.

A few months ago a colleague came to work with a shirt. It looked like a normal shirt but was as long as a mini dress and had a ribbon on the sides. I was blown away.

Unfortunately I couldn’t buy the shirt anymore.

But hey, I can sew hehe

And because I have a liking for polo shirts, I changed my shirt accordingly.

I used a twin needle with 2 colours and triple stitch on the arm and bottom of the cuff. I love the result ❤ ❤ ❤

This won’t be the only polo shirt I sew. Only next time I have to change the pattern because the neckline is too big for me.

DIY – A jacket for your next beach trip

Maybe I have mentioned once or twice or even a hundred times that I like stripes hihi

I have so many different fabrics with stripes that I lost track of them.

I started this jacket last year, put it in the closet and forgot it. While sorting my fabrics I rediscovered this jacket.

Now I finally managed to finish sewing it.

And I used my embroidered badge with the compass for the first time on a piece of clothing.

Wonder why I took the french ribbon to hide the back of the zipper? I didn’t have a dark blue ribbon.
Plus it matches my woven badge 🙂

DIY nautical hooded jacket

When I’ve sewn the girls dress with the school supplies I found remains of french terry fabric I used for a hooded jacket. Not enough for another jacket for myself, but enough for a little girls hooded sweat jacket.

I’ve made 6,7 or 8 hooded jackets for myself but this small jackets are way more complicated hehe

I started with an very easy jacket, Nothing special! I used the dress fabric as lining for the hood.

Here my first jacket for Miss M 🙂

My next jacket has been more elaborated 😀

Remember the maritime dress with the paper boats?

I had more than enough fabric left over when the dress has been done.

First I searched the net for drawings of a paper boat. I printed my found in different sizes and sewn it on the back of my jacket

The front got a paper boat too. This time with Miss M’s initials. I also made piping with the lining fabric

For lining the hood and the front I used the dress fabric. For the back lining I took the pocket fabric

Unfortunality I put the paper boats a little to high on the back. The hood is covering part of the boats 😦

A cute nautical dress for a little girl

I really like the Burda pattern!!!

I made one summer dress with Mickey Mouse and one with school supplies.

This one will be the last summer dress for this year. Fall will start soon – unfortunality hihi

I so love everything with nautical colors, motives ❤ ❤ ❤

This fabric I have as jersey and as cotton in different colors. Its sooooo cute. I made a T-Shirt for myself last year. I love to wear it ❤

I love being on a beach!

The smell of the ocean, the sound of the waves, the crying of the seagulls, the wind in my hair – nothing calms me down more then this.

When getting on a beach it is like coming home . ❤

My new sewn dresses with matching chucks

Didnt knew it has been this long since my last post. I have been very busy.

I’m still going every saturday to my sewing course and I still love it sooooo much

Here a few photos of my last projects. I made the photos with matching chucks because I have a lot of them and I really like to wear them ❤ ❤ ❤

I dont know exactly how many chucks I have – over 30 for sure. My most important colors I have in high and low hihi

My last project is a jacket I made last weekend. It looks soooo cool. The jersey inside is nautical as are the colors. My chucks too hehehe

I made dresses for me too. ME with dresses !!!! Usually I wear jeans, shorts, but never dresses. But I found a pattern I really liked. Can you believe I searched over 2 months for the fabric? At the beginning I didnt knew what fabric I wanted, but whatever fabric I have seen I didnt liked for my dress.

But 2 months ago I went to a fabric market and at the end of the day I found it !!!! And I knew THIS fabric would be the first dress for me since ages LOL

Isnt this fabric cute ???? The buttons has been Brigid’s idea. Old fashion style hehehe

I liked my first dress this much that I made the next one with the same pattern.

I bought a bodice few months ago at ebay. I planned to wear it this summer. But it has been a little to short.

But when my first dress has been done, I have seen that my bodice has been only a few inches longer then the upper part of my dress. I decided to use it for my next dress.

I shorten the bodice, changed the buttons and put the skirt on it. Take a look how perfect my seam looks like ❤ The ribbon is only decoration. But I liked how it looked like with this dress.

As you can see the fabric ist nautical – again hehehe. See the cute buttons on the bodice? Found them on the internet.

Both dresses are the same pattern but because of the bodice I had to change the skirt. This dress the skirt gets closed with buttons.

Over the last months I made a lot of shirts. But this two shirts are my favorites.

This fabric is a special one: one side is red with white stripes, the other side is blue with white stripes. The fabric is thin enough to wear it from spring to fall. I made one shirt with each color.

My next post will be with photos from my vacation. I have been on a beach and made over 2000 photos. I have to sort them all and choose what to post 🙂
